New publication: Is there a need for international economic criminal law?

In the conference proceedings for the 14th Three-Country Forum on Criminal Defence, which took place on 19 and 20 September 2025 in Nuremberg and was dedicated to the central theme “Justice in Injustice – Injustice in Justice. Lessons from Nuremberg”, an article by lawyer Prof. Dr Petra Wittig on the topic “Is there a need for international economic criminal law?” has been published.

This article examines, from a German perspective, a highly topical issue at the interface between commercial law and international criminal law. Starting with an overview of the current legal situation in international criminal law and national commercial criminal law, it explores the criminal policy question of whether international commercial criminal law should be further expanded, and in doing so also highlights the limits to any potential new criminalisation.
